SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - The lawyer for a Sumter middle school teacher charged with committing a sex act on a student says her client is innocent.
Attorney Rose Mary Parham says the allegations against 31-year-old music teacher Elizabeth Moss came as revenge after she disciplined her students. Parham says Moss looks forward to her day in court.
Sumter County sheriff's deputies say Moss had inappropriate sexual contact with a 13-year-old student at Chestnut Oaks Middle School. Authorities say they are investigating whether she also sexually assaulted other students.
School officials say they found messages from Moss to students on Facebook and contacted investigators.
Moss is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and is in jail on $150,000 bond.
