UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Union County school board members aredealing with overcrowding. It's so bad, the school district has put a cap on schools -meaning no more students can attend.

Oneovercrowded school is Marvin Ridge Middle School.

It is filled to capacity.  More than 1400 students attend the schoolnow. The capacity is 1200 students.

"I think we need relief," Parent Connie Wiedmansaid, "We have classes with 45 kids in a class, with two teachers becausethere is not enough space."

Weidman has two kids who attend Marvin Ridge MS.  She says switching classes can be achallenge.  Students in the halls at oncecan get confusing especially for her daughter.

"I am one of the short ones," Student SamanthaWeidman said. "I can barely see where I am going."

The principal agrees things are cramped at his school.

"It's crowded absolutely." Principal Dr. JayJones said.

He has added some changes to address the large studentpopulation when it comes to security.

"We have installed a few more securitycameras." Jones said.

The school also had to create another band room becauseso many students are learning how to play instruments.

Right now there are five mobile classrooms to deal withovercrowding. More could have been on the way if the school board didn't rejectcounty money to pay for more mobiles.

Space is at a premium at Marvin Ridge MS. One teacherdoesn't have a classroom so that teacher floats from classroom to classroom.

Union County School Board members are busy coming up witha plan to deal with overcrowding throughout the district They are scheduled todecide on a solution in April.
