UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Twelve Jurors have been seated in the trial of Joshua Houser, the Union County man charged with child abuse in the beating case of his stepdaughter, Kilah Davenport, who was three years old at the time.

Attorneys chose six men and six women to make up  the jury.

The victim did not show up for the court proceedings.

Family members confirm that Kilah is back in the hospital.

Her stepfather Joshua Houser is charged with assault on a child with intent of inflicting serious bodily injury.

Several weeks ago, Houser plead not guilty, but he was silent during the jury selection process.

Inside of the Union County Courthouse on Monday, potential jurors were asked if they or their families were the victims of child abuse.

They were also asked about what forms of discipline are appropriate for children.

Houser has plead not guilty.

Opening statements are set to begin on Wednesday morning.
