CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Hazmat crews with the Charlotte Fire Department are investigating a gas line breach in uptown Charlotte.

According to firefighters, crews were called to the intersection of South Caldwell and East 4th Street to the report of a natural gas line breach.  This is near the governmental complex in uptown.

Crews from Charlotte Fire and Piedmont Natural Gas are working to control the leak.

WBTV has learned that one lane around the leak will be closed as they work to make repairs, but all other lanes have reopened.  They were shut down for nearly three hours.

The CFD Battalion Chief told WBTV there was a gas reading in the storm drain. Piedmont determined there was a leak in a valve that spread out underground to the area around 4th and Caldwell.
