Hair clipper bandits

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Hair clipper bandits hit several beauty supply stores in Charlotte and Concord-- all on the same night.

"He's stealing all kinds of barbering equipment. High dollar barbering equipment," says CMPD Detective Marty Cuthbertson.

The heavyset man he's talking about was seen on surveillance at the Galaxy Beauty Supply on West Sugar Creek Road when he backed his SUV up to the front door.

He made no effort to hide his face. But his accomplice-- a woman-- was disguised in a gray hoodie and mask.

While he used a sledge hammer to pound away at the front door, the woman acted as lookout. On the video, you can see him pull a full pane of glass out of the way.

Now, they reverse roles. He's the lookout and because the hole in the door is big enough, she goes inside and bags up 33 cases of expensive barber clippers. These items vary in price from $60-$180 each. They get away with quite a large haul from all three stores they robbed that night.

"One thing that was real distinctive was the car. It was a white colored Ford Edge that has some kind of out-of-state plate."

That out-of-state plate looks distinctly like New York. They could be locals who never updates their tags, or, there's a more plausible explanation.

"They could be transient, hitting city to city to city, or from state to state to state."

Police say it's odd to see and man and woman act as teammates in a burglary. If you can help catch the clipper bandits, call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600. There's a reward up to $1,000 available.
