Police: 4 people charged after man opens fire on officers

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte have charged four people after a man fired shots at police officers.

The shooting was reported at 9:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Village Lake Drive, according to the news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police had knocked on the door of the home and walked inside Omar Cook, 26, ran upstairs and started shooting at officers.

Cook then jumped from a second story window and ran from the apartment, police say.

Cook has been charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on emergency personnel.

Police have also charged Lorrece Nicole, 39, Jabari Cook, 28, and Tyree Allyn Irvine, 21, for their in the case, officers say.

Detectives say they charged Lorrece Cook with resist, obstruct and delay, Jabari Cook with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and Irvine with assault on a government official and resist, obstruct and delay.

The four suspects were taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office according to CMPD.

The officers or other residents were not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
