Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be closed on Friday, Feb. 14, because of the winter storm.
The district has designated the day as Code C, meaning only designated essential personnel will report to work if they are able to travel safely.
CMS staff members are working with city and county leaders to receive the most up-to-date information about road and weather conditions.
April 15, the second day of spring break, will be the make-up day for students and schools on the traditional calendar.
CMS leaders are exploring additional options to make up instructional time missed due to severe the weather.
Changes to the 2013-14 calendar would require approval from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education. In addition, CMS must follow the North Carolina Calendar law, which outlines specific requirements for the number of instructional days or hours, teacher workdays and holidays.
The After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) will also be closed Feb. 14. All after-school, Community Use of Schools and athletic activities are canceled.
Project LIFT schools on the Continuous Learning Calendar will make up days on a separate schedule. The make-up day for Bruns Academy and Walter G. Byers is April 15. The make-up day for Druid Hills Academy and Thomasboro Academy is April 16.
CMS staff will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the evening and tomorrow. We will communicate any information about weekend school activities by Friday.
