TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Mexican man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday for his part in the 2010 killing of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry in what has come to be known as the case that exposed Operation Fast and Furious.

Manuel Osorio-Arellanes pleaded guilty to felony first degree murder and faced the possibility of life in prison.

He is one of five suspects in the December 2010 shooting death of Terry in the desert outside Rio Rico.

Assault rifles found at the scene were traced to the Justice Department's Operation Fast and Furious gun tracking sting.

While Osorio-Arellanes did not fire the fatal shot, he was party to the commission of a crime during which Terry was killed.

Prosecutors say Osorio-Arellanes and four other Mexican men had crossed the border into Arizona from Mexico in order to rob marijuana smugglers.

A gunfight erupted as Osorio-Arellanes and the other men approached Terry and three other agents.

Terry died at the scene.

Agents caught Osorio-Arellanes because he was wounded and couldn't get away.

Two other suspects are in custody in Mexico, two are still on the loose.

Terry's family has come to Tucson for the sentencing. His mother is expected to tell the court today about her loss.

The family is expected to speak to the media soon.
