Advocates asking for help in finding lost migrants

SUNLAND PARK, NM (AP) -

Immigrant advocates say the U.S.-Mexico border remains deadly and are calling for reforms.

The advocacy group Border Network for Human Rights has scheduled a press conference Friday at the border fence in Sunland Park, NM, to discuss the volatile region and to ask for more help in finding missing loved ones.

Family members are expected to share stories about missing family members and are seeking assistance in identifying unidentified bodies.

Border patrol officials say agents continue to make hundreds of rescues of migrants in the rugged border terrains of New Mexico, Arizona and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

The announcement Friday comes as Rep. Steve Pearce of New Mexico and Rep. Beto O'Rourke of Texas are set to unveil Saturday a bipartisan proposal aimed at improving U.S. Border Patrol training.
