GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -
A Gaston County woman has been arrested on 26 charges involving neglect of 13 horses.
According to Gaston County Police, the animals, which consisted of eleven horses and two miniature ponies, were seized "as a result of neglect and cruelty" from a home on Hephzibah Church Road in Crouse on February 4.
Molly Cate, 26, was charged with 13 counts each of failure to provide food and failure to provide proper veterinary care.
Police told WBTV that on December 10, animal control found 17 sick horses and two dogs with invalid vaccinations at the home. A veterinarian treated the animals while animal control was at the scene, recommended further treatment and care for the animals.
Cate, who was cited during that visit, failed to comply and continued to be non-compliant with those recommendations, officials said. She has also been investigated on previous occasions for animal cruelty as far back as November 2010.
Cate was taken to the Gaston County Jail and placed under a $26,000 bond.
