Protest At Duke Energy HQ; Man Cut From Car Following Wreck

Good morning to you on this Thursday, 6 February 2014, from the WBTV News morning team ... John Carter reporting to you this morning.  Be sure to tune in from 4:30 to 7 AM this morning for Charlotte's ONLY EMMY award-winning newscast...we've got a lot to tell you about.

First...let's talk weather.  It's cloudy and near freezing out there (34°) as I write rain right now!  Al Conklin will tell us how much we'll warm up today...and when we can expect to see rain again.

And speaking of weather...Wednesday's winter storm in the Northeast has left hundreds of thousands of people without power. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is telling people to have patience, warning that overnight refreeze could cause more problems on roads today.

We're going to be live from uptown Charlotte this morning.  We're expecting to see dozens of activists protesting outside Duke Energy's headquarters in Uptown Charlotte today.  We'll let you know what that protest is all about.

Around 12:30 this morning, a speeding car ran off the road on Trailer Drive in north Charlotte, flew through the air, cut off the top of a tree, and landed in a parking lot. Firefighters had to cut the man out of his vehicle.  Medics rushed him to the hospital with serious injuries.

One person was shot around 3:30 this morning at the Quality Inn and Sleep motel in west Charlotte....just off I-85.

Something you may not think much about as you drive down the interstate...just how much noise traffic makes.  But if you live just off the're very much aware of the noise.  A meeting is scheduled for tonight - to discuss the noise barriers on I-77 and 277 in Charlotte.  We'll have a live report.

If American snowboarder Shaun White is going to win an Olympic medal in the games that open tomorrow in Russia, it'll have to be on the halfpipe -- where he's won two straight gold medals at the Olympics. He is pulling out of the slopestyle event, a new type of snowboarding competition, after getting banged up during practice on the course.

All that and so much more when you join us this morning on WBTV from 4:30 to 7AM...and then be sure to join us on our BOUNCE sister-station from 7 to 9 AM.  Hope to see you then!
