ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -

Students at Winthrop University say they will now travel around campus differently after a man exposed himself to a student Monday night.

Police say the flasher stopped a student asking for directions.

The mood around Winthrop University was uneasy, Wednesday, after police say a man exposed himself to a student on campus.

"Why would anybody do that? That's ridiculous," said student Jennifer Kight.

"It makes me really uncomfortable and it's weird to hear about," said student Hannah Potter.

Campus police say just after 10 Monday night, a 19-year-old female student was walking from the Digiorgio Center on campus when a man in a black four door car pulled up beside her.

The man asked the student for directions to a Popeye's restaurant.

Police say the student started to give the man directions when she looked in the car and saw the man exposed himself.

Students say they are shocked this would happen on campus.

"We have like 9 police for like a square mile, so that's very surprising actually," said student Kathryn Bernard.

Police say the man drove away quickly after the act.

"I try not to walk by myself, especially at night, but I'll definitely be more cautious about it," said Potter.

Now some students say they'll change how they move around campus after Monday night's crime.

"Maybe not talk to as many people. I'm really outgoing so maybe I'll hold back," said Kight.

"Just be cautious of my surrounding and aware of who's around me," said student Mia Ward.

That female student victim was not able to get a good description of the suspect.

She told police he was a black man driving a four door black car.

If you have any information in this case, you are asked to call Winthrop police department.
