Investigators in Rowan County are asking for the public's help in finding a man they say robbed a China Grove convenience store Tuesday evening.
The incident was reported at 7:12 p.m. at Steve's Corner Store at the intersection of Lentz and Old Beatty Ford Roads, according to the report from the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.
On Thursday investigators identified the man as Harry Alex Butler whose last known address was the homeless shelter in Salisbury.
He is wanted for robbery with a dangerous weapon. He also has a probation violation.
Detectives interviewed the store clerk who said the man came into the store and sat a table and began talking to other customers, telling them that his car had broken down and he was waiting on someone to come pick him up.
When the other customers left he walked up to the counter and asked for a pack of cigarettes, according to the release.
He pointed to his coat pocket as if to indicate he had a weapon and demanded the cash out of the cash register drawer.
He grabbed it and asked for me and when the store clerk said there wasn't anymore he yelled, "You're a liar!" and threw the change drawer to the floor, according to the report.
He picked up what he could and ran out of the store.
The store clerk was not injured.
The man is described as a white male, 5'6'' tall wearing a blue coat with a hood and baggy blue jeans, according to the report.
He left the area on foot.
Deputies were unable to locate home.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Salisbury/Rowan Crimestoppers at 1-866-JAIL (5245).
