CONCORD, NC (WBTV) -

A very special kid got a special treat on Monday morning, to leave school early and fly off to Miami to live out his dream.

The only thing bigger than the limo he rode in, was his smile.

Because it's not every day Zachyus Bowers gets picked to be on a sports team. Most of the time he's not able to move around a lot.

Zachyus lives with severe chronic asthma. Due to the severity of his condition, Zachyus is limited to only short periods of physical activity.

But for one day this 11-year-old Concord student will be in heaven.

Zachyus loves the game of basketball and is a huge fan of the Miami Heat and was granted the opportunity to watch his favorite team play a game.

The students at Cabarrus Charter Academy and staff at Carolinas Healthcare System's went all out for this one.

And since Zachyus isn't just any kid this wasn't just any carpool.

Zachyus and his mother Tiesia Walker were taken to the airport in a stretch limo with police escorting them the whole way.

He was also given his personalized heat Jersey.

But the most exciting part was when Zachyus found out he would actually get to meet his favorite player Dwyane Wade.

And delight might just be the best word to describe Zachyus' reaction.

"I was crying and surprised," said Zachyus. "When I watched one of the awards, he got a trophy and he talked about his life and what he had been through and that he gave back to his family."

The non-profit that made this all possible is the Charlotte based group Dream On 3, whose goal is to unite kids' passion for sports with an unforgettable Dream Experience.

It's definitely a day that no one at the school will ever forget thanks to a group of folks committed to making sure their childhood memories are about more than just being sick.
