CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

After a hard freeze overnight, down to 9 degrees in Charlotte, there may be a few icy patches on secondary roads early Thursday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of the WBTV viewing area through noon Thursday because of the threat of black ice.

WBTV Meteorologist Al Conklin says to exercise extreme caution if heading out on the roads.

Sunshine is back today but we will likely not push temperatures out of the 30s, way below the average of 52 degrees.

Conklin says there is a silver lining however, a warming trend is coming and highs will be back in the 50s by Saturday and near 60 degrees by Sunday.

Showers start to appear around the area on Sunday and will be in and out of the region through Wednesday of next week.
