Students are having fun today in the snow, but there is a pay back. School districts have already come up with dates so students can make up this snow day.
School districts have a certain number of days students must be in the classroom.
Cabarrus County school district has scheduled class for this Saturday. The superintendent has the authority to schedule Saturday classes despite the fact make up days have already been chosen.
The district says Saturday school is best so its roughly 1600 hourly workers won't get short changed from a 40-hour check.
"We try as much as we can," Executive Assistant to Cabarrus County Superintendent Robert Kirk said. "To enable them to work in a given week so they don't suffer financial harm by not being able to work."
March 28th was the district's next makeup date, but administrators fear with winter still in full force - more snow days might be needed.
"If we keep rolling all of our snow days in March 28th and beyond," Kirk said. "Nobody wants to start taking away from Spring Break - Yikes - bad news."
Charlotte Mecklenburg School District has used a snow day in nearly three years. Now students have to make up two snow days. It looks like students will now make up snow days next month on Presidents' Day and the day after. Students were to have a four day weekend but that won't happen.
"We had made plans for the 18th," CMS Parent Rachel Cook said. "But now she'll be in school."
Rowan-Salisbury's school district decided Valentine's Day will be the district's make up day.
Other parts of the area have used up all its snow days. Watauga county school district has used 10 snow days this year. Its plan is to have Saturday classes and extend the school year so students can make up for snow days.
