Two more Savannah-Chatham Metro officers now are the subjects of criminal investigaitons.
District Attorney Meg Heap sent a letter Jan. 8 to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations asking the bureau to look into Detective Trina Mayes and Capt. Cedric Phillips.
Mayes is the officer who brought a sexual harassment claim that led to Police Chief Willie Lovett's sudden retirement in September.
Capt. Cedric Phillips is the former commander of Metro's drug squad.
The criminal inquiry into Mayes came after a private investigation firm hired by the city of Savannah found that Mayes had a romantic relationship with a felon while working for Metro and lied about it.
A copy of that investigation was turned over to the DA's office.
Heap's letter to the GBI cites the city's private investigation and says Mayes may be guilty of forgery and of making false statements.
Through her attorney, Will Claiborne, Mayes denies the private investigator's findings.
Claiborne says his client is being retaliated against for reporting sexual harassment.
The city and the DA's office deny that.
Heap's letter to the GBI regarding Phillips also cites a private investigation done at the city's request and says Phillips may be guilty of forgery and making false statements.
The city has not made public the private investigator's findings on Phillips.
Because of a heavy case load, the GBI sent the cases back to the District Attorney's office.
Heap has assigned her own investigator to the cases.
Phillips is currently on paid administrative leave.
Mayes was fired from the department Friday and is appealing that decision.
