Police arrest man who barricaded himself in apartment, second suspect at large

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police arrested a man wanted on several charges Wednesday morning after he barricaded himself in an east Charlotte apartment.

The incident was reported at 7 a.m. at an apartment on the 5500 block of Albemarle Road, according to the release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Officers were there to serve a warrant on 24-year-old Fitzroy Williams, who was wanted for an outstanding felony probation violation for absconding.

Williams is also a suspect in an assault with a deadly weapon incident that occurred in the North Tryon Division on Sunday, Jan. 19, according to the release.

When police arrived, Williams barricaded himself inside the apartment. A SWAT Team and Negotiators were called to the scene and set up a perimeter. 

Nearby residents were evacuated from their apartments as a precaution. 

After a brief standoff, Williams surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. 

He has since been transported to the North Tryon Division to be interviewed by detectives. 

CMPD is also seeking the public's assistance in locating a second suspect involved in the incident in the North Tryon Division. 

Christopher A. Williams, 22, is wanted for Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, according to the release.
