Agencies start task force to solve Statesville cold case

Posted: Updated:

On what would have been Joey Brewer's 33rd birthday, the family of the murdered Statesville man is making a new push to solve his case. Beneath a billboard advertising a $20,000 reward for information, the family announced new eyes will look into their son's cold case.

"We need the person that did this... to please, please come forward," said Joey's mother, Robin Brewer.

It's been more than two years but Brewer says it still feels like yesterday.

"We will fight until we are laid beside him at the graveyard," she said in front of friends and family trying to re-energize his case.

His parents still yearn to hear his voice. His daughter is just beginning to comprehend he's not coming back.

"We're going to do everything that we can for this family to make sure they get justice for Joey," said Darren Campbell, with the Iredell Sheriff's Office.

Campbell's presence at the families gathering is giving Robin Brewer a sense of optimism since her son's death. She's hoping her family will finally get closure.

For the first time in Joey's case, the Iredell Sheriff's Office will join forces with the Statesville Police Department. Statesville PD has been investigating the case since 2011.

"It's a great thing to come together and work as a task force," said Campbell. "The more eyes the better."
