Lenoir Police asking for help in arson cases

Posted: Updated:
LENOIR, NC (WBTV) -

Lenoir Police are asking the public to secure their buildings in downtown Lenoir and be on the lookout for anything suspicious after three fires that are now being labeled as arson.

Two fires were set in November, a third just two weeks ago in a garage near an occupied house. Police say they cannot be sure if it is the work of one person but say it does appear suspicious.

All the fires have been ruled to be set by human hands and all are within a couple of blocks of each other.

"Arson is a serious crime," said Sgt. Cristol Taylor of the Lenoir Police Department. While no one has been hurt in the three fires that have been set, authorities are concerned.

"A first responder, a passerby, anyone could get hurt," said Taylor.

Police are asking anyone who may have information to contact Crimestoppers at (828) 758-8300.
