WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield raised less than $500 in his campaign for Congress during the fourth quarter of 2013, according to a filing with the Federal Elections Commission.

Barfield's year-end finance report, posted Tuesday on the FEC website, shows total contributions of $475 between October 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013. With expenses of $12.86, Barfield has $462.17 cash on hand heading into 2014. Click here to see the full report: http://1.usa.gov/1m4HKQU

Barfield announced early in 2013 that he planned to challenge incumbent Rep. Mike McIntyre for the District 7 House seat. McIntyre announced last week he would not seek re-election for a tenth term, leaving Barfield as the only Democrat in the field.

By contrast, McIntyre's most recent FEC report filed October 8 showed $523,890.03 on hand through the third quarter of 2013.

As far as Republicans who have declared to run for the District 7 seat, former state Senator David Rouzer had $178,423.88 cash on hand in his last FEC report filed October 11, 2013. Rouzer lost the closest race in the country to McIntyre in 2012, coming up less than 700 votes short.  Woody White, the Chairman of the New Hanover County Commissioners, has filed paperwork to run for the seat. He has not yet submitted any finance reports with the FEC.

Congressional candidates must submit year-end 2013 reports to the FEC by January 31, 2014.
