PELZER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The boil-water advisory was lifted for the Upper Mill Village area of Pelzer on Friday after a water main break Tuesday.

Tuesday night, Pelzer municipal clerk Heather Holcombe said water was flowing in the Upper Mills Village area after the break on Orr Street.

An 8-inch pipe broke at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, closing Orr Street, Holcombe said.

Workers on the scene said the water main break could be attributed to a shift in the soil. They said the earth became unstable because of excessive amounts of rain and warmer weather.

Town officials released a notice to the residents of the town of Pelzer on Friday repealing the boil-water advisory.

The notice said there was no longer a need for Upper Mill Village residents to boil their water prior to drinking or cooking. They said samples of the water were collected and analyses indicated the system was safe to use for consumption.
