NEWTON, NC (WBTV) -

Newton-Conover will have a new head football coach in 2014 and he is Matt Beam.  Beam comes to the Red Devils after 5 seasons at Burns.

During his tenure at Burns, Beam went 51-17 and won the conference title 3 of his 5 seasons.  The Bulldogs made it to the playoffs ever year of his tenure and won a playoff game every season.  In 4 of his 5 season, Burns also won at least 10 games every campaign.

His best season came in 2011 when the Bulldogs went 13-2 and made it to the Western Regional Finals.

Before coming to Burns, Beam was head coach at North Lincoln.  He would compile a record of 30-20 with the Knights from 2005-2008.  As the Knights head coach, he would never have a losing record and took the team to the 3rd round of the playoffs in 2007.  Since he left, North Lincoln has not had a winning season.

Beam takes over a Newton-Conover program that went 2-9 last season under Brint Russell.  In Russell's first year with the Red Devils, they went 9-4 and won a share of the conference title.

Before Russell, Nick Bazzle was the head coach and the Red Devils went to back to back state title games in 2008 and 2009 winning it all in 08.
