A Middle Tennessee tax assessor has been arrested Tuesday afternoon following a traffic stop.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a trooper stopped Putnam County Assessor Travis Roberts on State Route 136 outside of Cookeville.
Roberts, 44, was allegedly speeding and not wearing a seat belt.
But the trooper also smelled marijuana and when he asked Roberts about it, the assessor allegedly handed over a small amount of the drug.
Roberts was then transported to the Putnam County Jail on misdemeanor drug and drug paraphernalia charges.
