STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Statesville have arrested a man they say stole antique model trains from his next-door neighbor.

Monday, police responded to a home on Park Street after receiving a report of a break-in. Once they were on told that someone had broken into a two-story outbuilding behind the home, and that the antique model trains and tracks had been stolen.

The trains, which included Lionel, H.O., and Pioneer models, were worth over $20,000, the official report states.

Officers then began to talk to neighbors to see if there were any witnesses to the incident. When they got to the home of 46-year-old Douglas Todd Donahue next door, they said they saw evidence that the stolen property might be there.

Donahue, the officers said, never came to the door.

A search warrant was then obtained, and Donahue was found hiding in the crawl space.  All the trains, tracks, and train parts were also found and returned to the owner.

Donahue was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and larceny. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and given a $5,000 bond.
