MOORESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

A Mooresville man was arrested on several charges after setting a home, a boat, and a North Carolina flag on fire at different locations throughout his neighborhood, according to a report from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

The incident began around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 30, when deputies were called to a home on Neill Farm Road in reference to a civil disturbance.

A resident of home on Neill Farm Road told the deputies that a neighbor, 51-year-old Franklin Donaldson, had been at his home and was refusing to leave, but had left before the deputies arrived.

The deputies then went to Donaldson's home, where another neighbor told them Donaldson had punctured a tire on his vehicle and had left the scene. Yet another neighbor informed the deputies that Donaldson suffered from a broken neck from an unrelated event and was not wearing his neck brace.

The deputies then began searching for Donaldson, and soon learned he had been at another home on Neill Farm Road where he removed a N.C. flag from the front porch, put it inside a trash can outside and set it on fire, the report states.

A K-9 Officer then arrived at the scene and began assisting in tracking Donaldson through the neighborhood.

During that time, Iredell Emergency Communications advised the deputies that someone had set a home on fire on nearby Graycliff Drive, as well as a boat at a home on that same road.

Deputies said that the following day, a resident of the Graycliff community contacted the Sheriff's Office and said that the community sign and Christmas decorations on the sign had also been set on fire.

Officials responded to the area on Graycliff Drive, and saw Donaldson running from the scene.

Donaldson was then taken into custody and transported to Davis Regional Hospital for examination due to his broken neck.

He was released from the hospital a short time later and arrested for first degree arson, burning of a boat, burning of personal property, larceny, and damage to personal property.

He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and placed under a $75,000 bond.
