Albany YMCA welcomes 2014 with community event

Posted: Updated:

A lot of businesses are closed but the YMCA in Albany is welcoming in potential members with open arms.

The first 104 people to show up received t-shirts, the number 104 symbolizes the years the YMCA has been in operation. People could tour the facility, ask questions about programs, try out different areas of the facility, and even sign up for a new membership. Snacks were available and everyone was greeted with a smile on the start of the new year.

"The way the Y celebrates bringing in the new year is to focus on what we think is really important," said organizer Daniel Gillan. "That's community, that's responsibility, that's a healthy lifestyle, social development, all of those tenants of the Y that we stand for and we try to support from the very start of the year."

The Albany branch is also hoping to expand the Lee county branch, and generate new members for future growth.
