CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

With the ringing in of the new year, Charlotte is getting its first look at the first babies born in the area.

WBTV has been in contact with Novant Health and Carolinas Medical Center to find out more about the first babies born in their hospitals.

Chelsea Taylor gave birth to a little girl early Wednesday morning at 1:24 a.m. at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.

Taylor, and father Andrew Sharpling, welcomed Laila Rae Sharpling into the world as the first baby born in 2014 at Novant.

She weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 3/4 inches long.

But little Laila wasn't the first baby born in Charlotte on 2014.

That honor went to Samuel Kokoszka at Carolinas Medical Center, by just ten minutes.

Kristine and Pete Kokoszka welcomed Samuel at 1:14 a.m. He weighted 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 21 1/4 inches long.
