Police: 11-year-old stabbed teen in back, charged with attempted murder

What started as an altercation between two York children nearly turned deadly Monday evening.

That's when police say an 11-year-old boy stabbed a 15-year-old on teenager in the back near Green Street and Highway 321.

"A group of kids were over another gentleman's house getting haircuts and there was a fight that broke out between the two there," said Lt. Rich Caddell with the York Police Department.

According to investigators, the victim took a hat and started hitting the suspect in the head.

Witnesses say the suspect told the victim to stop, but he didn't and a fight broke out between the two.

After witnesses broke up the initial fight, police say the 11-year-old was taken to his home on Galilean Road where he grabbed a knife and went looking for the victim while saying, "I'm going to get him".

That's when police say the two met up again.

"We eventually located the 15-year-old subject laying on his stomach with a knife in his back," said Lt. Caddell.

WBTV stopped by the house where the suspect lived and while no one wanted to speak with us on camera, a woman claiming to be the suspect's sister spoke with us off camera.

She said the suspect and the victim were hanging at their house minutes before the crime happened.

"It's very odd for me and the city. We usually don't see that kind of violence between kids," said Caddell.

The victim was taken to CMC-Main where police say he's in stable condition.

The 11-year-old was charged with attempted murder and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.

Due to the suspect's age, police say he will have a hearing in front of a family court judge next month.
