Police in Charlotte have arrested a man they believe to be responsible for a Wednesday night homicide in south Charlotte.
Miguel Angel Zelaya, 19, was arrested Friday afternoon at an apartment on Lakemist Drive for a robbery warrant not related to the murder.
Police said information gathered during the investigation identified Zelaya as a potential suspect. When he was arrested, he was taken to police headquarters and interviewed by detectives.
After that interview, he was charged with murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied property causing serious injury, and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
According to a press release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to the 7600 block of Sharon Lakes Road just before 10 p.m. Wednesday for an assault with a deadly weapon call.
They say the victim, later identified as 17-year-old Jose Orlando Ibarra, and the shooter were involved in an altercation in a parking lot when Ibarra was shot.
A family member took Ibarra to Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville where he was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.
