GAGE looking for ways to bring in business

The Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville, or GAGE, is looking at ways they can bring more businesses to the area.

This comes after the issue was brought up at Monday night's city council meeting.

Debbie Dewey, the President of Gage, shared the group's 2013 Report of Activities with council last night.

Dewey says it's that report that shows this year, when compared to last year, there are fewer businesses interested in coming to Evansville.

She says some projects got close to finishing, but then companies backed out.

The good news, she says, is that they're seeing an increase in the number of existing businesses that are expanding.

Dewey says GAGE is now focusing on ways they can appeal to business owners outside of the area.

"What we're doing to try and drum up leads from outside the area is we're looking at developing targeted marketing packages for certain industries and certain companies. Try to kind of entice them to say, 'Hey look at Evansville. Maybe you'd like to come see about starting an operation here.' It's a lot of hardworking people and a great place to live and a great place to raise a family. We also have a lot of amenities that other cities our size don't have," Dewey said.

Dewey says they have seen an increase in the number of entrepreneurs and innovators that want to work here.
