Sheriff: 16 people charged in Union Co. drug operation

UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies with the Union County Sheriff's Office said 16 people were charged during a drug operation dubbed "Operation Holiday Blues."

Sheriff David Taylor said that "Operation Holiday Blues" has been an on-going investigation over the past several months by his drug task force officers.

He said the majority of the charges stemmed from tracking the over-the-counter pharmacy sales of Ephedrine or Pseudoephedrine products.

"We have discovered and prosecuted subjects being arrested in 22 meth labs this year alone, which is double the amount found last year," Taylor said. "We know that this is a very addicting drug and hopefully with the help of the Solicitor's Office, we can prosecute more and more of these cases."

Suspects netted in "Operation Holiday Blues" face an array of charges, related to the possession, distribution, or purchase of illegal drugs.

One woman also faced a charge of unlawful child neglect.

"We realize we may not win the war on drugs, but we will continue to fight the battle in Union County," Taylor said.

Taylor said more arrests are expected as a result of this on-going investigation.
