SC drivers earn top ranking as 2nd worst in the country

According to a new report by, South Carolina drivers are the second worst drivers in the country.

The company says they pulled statistics from a number of organizations, two of which include the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

States were then scored in five categories, including fatalities, drunk driving incidents, number of tickets cited and careless driving. The higher the score, the worse the states were ranked.

Specifically, the report claimed South Carolina saw 49 fatalities and had the second highest number of careless driving citations.

The states which ranked low on the list with the best drivers all had one thing in common; low careless driving citations, "meaning they were keeping an eye on the road ahead and their surroundings, not on their cell phones," according to the report.

Rounding out the top five worst states, were Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, South Carolina and Louisiana.

The top five best states were Oregon, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Utah and Vermont, whose drivers got the top honor.
