Deputies: Man charged after boat dock stolen from Lake Hartwell

WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man has been charged after a boat dock was stolen from Lake Hartwell in July.

Deputies said a man contacted them in July concerning a boat dock he had recently purchased, which may have been stolen property, according to a release from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.

The man and his wife purchased the 24 foot by 24 foot dock off of Craigslist from a man claiming to be named Robert and had it delivered to them, the sheriff's office said. The woman took pictures of the dock before and after it was delivered, and deputies said the dock was missing the dock permit number after it arrived.

The sheriff's office worked with the Army Corps of Engineers to trace the dock number from the woman's photos and found that it was issued to a person in Hendersonville, NC. The person said a friend checked his dock in July and noticed it was missing and the walkway was upside down in the water, deputies said.

Warrants were issued for Richard Kent Adomat, 37, on Sept. 9 in connection with the theft and he was taken into custody on Friday, deputies said. Adomat has been charged with grand larceny and obtaining a signature or property under false pretenses, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.
