Deputies: Man tried to burn down home after argument with mother

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

An Iredell County man was arrested earlier this week after investigators say he tried to burn down his mother's home.

Roger Lee Allen, 41, of Stony Point, is charged with second degree arson, according to the news release from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

On Nov. 3, shortly after midnight, Iredell County Emergency Communications received a call about a domestic dispute between a mother and her son. 

Deputies were dispatched and while in route received additional information about the residence now being on fire.

Fire units were additionally dispatched to the scene. 

When the deputies arrived they were able to locate a female who said she and her son, Allen, had been in a verbal argument. 

She became fearful and went to seek shelter at her mother's home adjacent to her home.  While at this residence, Allen arrived and continued to verbally abuse her.

Allen left this residence and a short time later, the victim sees her residence on fire.

Allen was located on the scene and arrested for damage he had done to the victim's vehicle.

The fire was investigated by the Iredell County Fire Marshal's Office and determined to be suspicious.

Allen was arrested on Dec. 10 and was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and was placed under a $25,000 secured bond.
