Families of fallen heroes depart on Snowball Express

HEBRON, KY (FOX19) -

More than 1,800 children and spouses, including some from the Tri-State, will depart for the Lone Star state today, as part of the Snowball Express.

The annual trip is for families who have lost a loved one serving our country overseas and aims to create new and happy memories during the holiday season. While in Texas, families will participate in conversations and activities to help them cope with loss.

The Snowball Express is an all expenses paid, four-day trip sponsored by American Airlines.

The gate and plane are festively decorated, and the theme for the long weekend is "Wizard of Oz."
