Making ornaments for the Christmas tree is often a family tradition.
An event on Tuesday offered the chance to craft reminders of loved ones lost.
Judy Davis was among those who gathered at the Metro Police West Precinct to prepare for Nashville's Season to Remember.
Judy Davis' son, Chris Davis, was shot during a robbery in 2009 just a few minutes before his shift was to end.
The ornaments made Tuesday will recognize homicide victims and will decorate a tree at Centennial Park.
"You hate to see that many people affected by crime," said Judy Davis. "At least you know there is a reason why we are all there together, and we are there to honor the victims instead of the criminals."
In its 19th year, the Season to Remember ceremony will be held Thursday at Centennial Park.
