Kidnapped NC teen girl found in Alabama, man arrested, officials say

A North Carolina girl that was kidnapped has been found, and her accused kidnapper arrested, in Alabama.

According to officials with the NC Federal Bureau of Investigation, the 15-year-old girl was reported missing from her home in Troy by her family on December 7.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office investigators and FBI agents followed leads in the case and located the girl and her kidnapper, identified as 31-year-old Jose Louis Resendiz, in Decatur, Alabama, around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10.

Officials say FBI Birmingham agents and members of the Decatur Police Department arrested Resendiz and recovered the girl without incident.

Resendiz is charged with abduction of a child and second degree kidnapping. He is being held in the Decatur City Jail until he is extradited back to North Carolina.

The 15-year-old victim is in protective custody until she is reunited with her family.
