STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

A Mooresville man who was set to begin his student teaching this fall in Iredell County was arrested last week after investigators say they found child porn on his computer.

Michael John Bernatchez, 26, of Mooresville, is charged with seven counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the news release from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

On Nov. 30, 2013 a citizen contacted the Iredell County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit about a person possibly having child pornography on a computer.

After learning about the computer and previewing some of the files, detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for the device and seized it.

The State Bureau of Investigation was called in for assistance in searching the computer.

Numerous videos and photographs of children involved in sexual activity were located in the files of the device as well as other information which will be used in this investigation, according to investigators.

Investigators say Bernatchez was participating in a college internship for teaching at East Mooresville Intermediate School.

He was scheduled to begin student teaching in the fall.

Bernatchez, was arrested on Dec. 6.

He was placed under a $50,000 secured bond.

At this point in the investigation, there is no indication of any student or school involvement in these matters, investigators say.
