LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A woman was arrested after stealing thousands of dollars in cash and items from a man who was letting her live in his home to help her out, according to a report from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

On December 2, the victim reported to deputies that he had noticed about $2,000 worth of ammunition, more than $5,000 in cash, and a coin collection worth $4,000 was missing from his home.

Detectives began investigating, and determined that 38-year-old Nadine Marie Gearhart had made a number of trips to a pawn shop dating back to September. Officials said the property had already been sold by the shop, and could not be recovered.

The victim, deputies said, had allowed Gearhart and her husband to move into his home to "help them out." The husband was not charged in the case.

Gearhart was arrested and charged with one felony count each of larceny and possession of stolen goods, five felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

She was taken to the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center and placed under a $27,500 bond.
