STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

The Statesville Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying a man they say stole money from an ATM while a woman was making a withdrawal.

On Sunday, November 24, the victim was withdrawing money from the Cash Points ATM in the Signal Hill Mall parking lot on E. Broad Street. While she was conducting the transaction, a white male walked up to the ATM and stood almost beside her, and even asked how she was, police said.

The man then snatched the money from the machine as it was being dispensed and ran to a nearby vehicle.

The man is described as a white male, possibly in his 20's, with a slender build. He was about 5'5", approximately 160 pounds, and was wearing a black Gatorade t Shirt and jeans.

The vehicle that he got into, described as possibly being a Ford Mustang, light green or light blue in color, was last seen headed North on Signal Hill Drive toward Simonton Road.

Anyone with information regarding this crime, or the identity of the man is asked to contact the Statesville Police Department at (704)878-3406, or Iredell Crime Stoppers at (704)662-1340.
