Salvation Army serves Thanksgiving dinner early

Thanksgiving came early at the Salvation Army in Evansville on Sunday.

Officials said many people have been looking forward to the day for a long time.

Organizers said cooks prepared 35 turkeys. They expected to feed nearly 500 people.

The gym was decorated and the visitors were being waiting on by volunteers.

"They're from throughout the community. They're from corporations but they're also just dedicated volunteers who have been with us throughout the years and we are blessed to have them," said Sandy Appler.

Organizers said those volunteers and the money they raise through the Red Kettle campaign are makes the Thanksgiving meal possible.
