FIRST WARNING WEATHER

Major storm could impact Thanksgiving travel

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

NBC12's First Warning Weather team is closely watching the development of a storm that may bring as much as 2"-3" of rain to Central Virginia tomorrow. The storm will pull away quickly Wednesday morning.

The system will first impact us tomorrow morning. As the rain arrives, there should be enough cold air brief period of sleet or even just some rain mixed with sleet before changing over to all rain fairly quickly.  There may be some slick spots on the road tomorrow morning WEST of Richmond and along I-81.

Milder air will be pushing in from the south with this big surge of Gulf of Mexico moisture. Rain will be heavy tomorrow as low pressure tracks from the Gulf of Mexico up the Eastern Seaboard.

Rain will quickly end Wednesday morning, then as the big storm pulls well north of the region by afternoon, cold air will quickly return from the west and northwest.

If there is enough moisture left over behind the departing storm, we might see some light snow or snow showers Wednesday afternoon or evening.  Accumulation should be minimal if anything falls.

NBC12 will continue to watch the storm closely.
