FOREST CITY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Fire officials say they were able to rescue two cats and a dog from a burning home along 12 Oaks Dr. Saturday night, but now the pet owner says her dog's life is in jeopardy.

No one was home at the time but firefighters found two cats and a dog inside. The dog was unresponsive, so crews resuscitated him using CPR.

Despite their dog's amazing rescue, the pet owner says her and her son's dog, Gidget, is suffering from serious smoke-related injuries. She says sadly Gidget is in a lot of pain and they will have to euthanize her.

The fire happened after 5 p.m. According to fire officials, a child who was walking down the street saw smoke coming out of a window and told his parents, who then called 911.

Fire officials said they arrived to find one of the bedrooms engulfed in flames. They say the house received extensive smoke and water damage. The Red Cross arrived to help the family.
