Deputies: Body found in Randolph County near where missing SC woman's truck was found

RANDOLPH COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - On Saturday morning members of the Ash-Rand Rescue's Search and Rescue team and investigators with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office found the body of a unidentified person near where a missing South Carolina woman's truck was found.

Deputies say the body was discovered Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd near the intersection of Pisgah Church Rd in Southern Randolph County.

The body was found at a make shift shelter in a wooded area that had water bottles, food, and books, investigators say.

Investigators say the body has been deceased for several weeks due to advanced decomposition.

The body will be sent to a medical examiner in Raleigh to determine the cause of death and identity.

Saturday's search was a planned training event and the location was chosen based on the discovery of a truck of a missing South Carolina woman in August.

Investigators are waiting to hear back from the Medical Examiner's Office to see if it relates to the case of Susan Diane Peterson.

The York County Sheriff's Office says the last contact anyone had with Peterson was around 7 a.m. August 14.

Her brother says she was headed to Charlotte to donate plasma.

Peterson was last seen driving a white 2009 Ford Ranger pick-up truck.
