LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – For a full minute bells rang out throughout Louisville Metro at 1:30 p.m. Friday as the nation paused to remember the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Mayor Greg Fischer urged residents to take up Kennedy's famous challenge to ask not what their country can do for them, but rather, to ask what they can do for their country.

President Kennedy left his mark on Louisville If only through his name. The John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge was the first structure in the United States to be named in honor of the president after his assassination. The ramps leading up to the bridge, unofficially called Spaghetti Junction, is officially name the Kennedy Interchange.

Bellarmine University's Kennedy residence hall is also named for the president, as is JFK Montessori Elementary School located in the Park Duvalle neighborhood.
