Family's son with rare disorder brings community together

Posted: Updated:

A Henderson County couple shared their story of their child's rare disorder. It's a story of hope and resolve and why they're staying Brant Strong.

Just a few weeks ago, Josh and Holly Duncan learned their 10-mont-old son, Brant, has an extremely rare disorder that eventually will cause Brant's body to shut down.

That diagnosis led to the Facebook page: Brant Strong

It's a place where the community is coming together to help the family through a difficult time.

Brant has type one GM-1 Gangliosidosis, which is the most severe.

Brant is at home, but has to constantly have an oxygen tube and eats through a feeding tube. Holly says she's decided to leave her job to care of him.

"I don't think he'll be leaving my side for a while," said Holly.

It is something, she says along with medical bills, is putting her family in a financial bind. Family, friends, and even strangers aren't willing to let that happen.

Holly's best friend created Brant Strong. It's a page where those who are affected by Brant's story can set up fundraiser's, make donations, and pray for Brant's healing.

Holly and Josh say they hope for a miracle each day.

Family and friends have set up a trust fund called "Brant Strong" at the Ohio Valley Bank for anyone who would like to donate.
