LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Bible study session turned into a burglary scene Thursday night after Louisville Metro Police say a man broke into cars in the parking lot at Evangel Church.
"They found a man who apparently was dressed in dark clothing and had some gloves on, this seemed rather suspicious to the officers," said Dwight Mitchell, a Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson.
Mitchell said officers had received a call about a van stuck in a field. Brian Barahona, 24, was arrested by LMPD after officers found two syringes, a digital scale with white residue on it, two GPS systems, tools, a bag of coins and a check made out to Evangel Church in that van.
Executive pastor Kevin McKnight of Evangel said they are disheartened that someone who such an evil act at such a holy place.
"It's a tragic thing to think that someone would violate people who are here to worship," said McKnight
After 28 years with the church, McKnight feels blessed to have never had an incident so malicious and disgraceful before.
Barahona is facing two counts of theft from a vehicle and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia. Police said the value of the stolen items was $2,000. All of the items were returned.
