LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - DAE Industries in Louisville makes stands for airplanes, but it's their number of foreign customers that has taken off.

"England, Ireland, a lot to Germany, Indonesia," the company's CEO, Todd Berger said.

The international sales have become 20 percent of their business in just a few years.

"When it needs to work, definitely needs to work, they are buying it from the USA," he explained.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Louisville companies are exporting more every year, increasing by 12 percent since 2012, and Kentucky has become one of the top exporters in the country.

"Companies are more and more embracing the idea of exporting because of the fact that companies tend to grow faster, tend to be stronger," Brian Miller, Senior International Trade Specialist with the U.S. Department of Commerce said.

A recent change in free trade policy, the Internet and a global demand for quality can be attributed to the increase.

"Foreign companies they seek those out they want those products," Miller said.

DAE opened in Louisville in 1984 as a machine shop. It now employs 48 people. Berger is taking Kentucky pride one step further.

"Everything we have is made in the USA  and when we export it around the world, we want to show that," Berger said.

The U.S. Department of Commerce is making a push to get more companies to export. Several small businesses have also jumped on board.

The local Louisville commerce office is ready to help companies start selling overseas.
