Billy Graham and Dean Smith

Hi everyone, this is Paul Cameron in the WBTV Newsroom.  Two of North Carolina's best-known figures making headlines tonight.

The Reverend Billy Graham is back in the hospital for the second time in a month. A spokesman says Dr. Graham is once again suffering from respiratory issues and should be back home in a day or two.

Also, former UNC basketball coach Dean Smith was given the nation's highest civilian award-- the Medal of Freedom. Although Smith wasn't well enough to travel, his family accepted the honor at the White House where President Obama praised him-- not for his basketball victories-- but for his humanitarian efforts. Coach Smith was the first to integrate his basketball team by recruiting the great Charlie Scott in the late 60's.

Remember the woman who accused the Duke lacrosse players of rape? Krystal Mangum was on the stand, claiming she killed her boyfriend in self defense. Mangum is accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death in front of his children.

Some new information just in about a 17-year old who died in the back seat of a police car. This is unconfirmed but his family says state investigators told them he was shot in the head. The officer who had taken Jesus Huerta into custody claims he wasn't the one who fired his gun.

We had another chilly morning/sunny afternoon typical November day today, but there could be something brewing for Thanksgiving week and I'm not talking giblet gravy. Eric Thomas is looking ahead to Turkey Day in his First Alert Forecast.

So join Maureen O'Boyle, Eric Thomas and me for WBTV News at 5:00 in just a few minutes from now!
